Hi Stephanie
I’m interested in your opinion regarding barefoot running and minimalist footwear.
Thanks in advance – Greg

My old coach, Peter Tegen (finished his career at Standford) use to have us finish every workout with barefoot strides to ensure that we built up a foot muscles. I just spent a week in the Caymans and ran every day, barefoot on the beach. By the end of the week I was tired out but my feet felt great.
It seems to me that barefoot running builds strength in the muscles of your foot. That begin said, I do not like minimalist footwear. I find the opposite true for shoes. I get supportive training shoes when I run (wearing Brooks Defiance 3 now). I can tell immediately when they break down and even then they are far better than flats.

Hi Stephanie. I found your YouTube video on Plantar Fasciitis Taping to be very helpful. I am looking for a professional grade athletic tape that is thicker and more durable than what I have previously used. What is the name of the tape that you recommend in your video? Many thanks–Melanie

Hey Melanie,
The tape is Leukotape. It is a prescription level tape you can get from a PT or doctor. Recently though I have found it on the internet…make sure you do a few searches before you buy- prices can range from $8 – $16 a roll plus shipping. Don’t let the price discourage you it is worth its weight in gold! Put it directly on your skin and it will stay through showers, baths and swimming for about a week. Then you will want to remove it to let your skin breath a bit…take the night off and reapply.

I am 59 year old disabled veteran. I ripped tendons in both ankles in 1875 and was treated with a rap. I rested for 2 days and went on for 4 years of limping and in pain. I was awarded 40% disablity for ankles. My back has bulgng disks and arthritic, I had two knee replacements and my hip is painful. The Va doesnt believe the problems are from the ankles and limping all these years. I have large bumps on the back of ankles. I have dead bone and a chip of bone floating in the ankle. I fallen many times due to ankles going numb… I have to proof on paper that my gait is relate to back. knees and hip.. the va said there is no scientific proof to determine that.. we all know its true.. I need proof. can you help me … I didnt ask for help up until 2 years ago when I lost my job and finances are depleted…. thank you…. Lauren Castrovinci
