Women’s race: Nobody can challenge Ukraine’s Averkova
After winning Sunday’s 30th Detroit Free Press/Flagstar women’s marathon, Ukrainian (and Foot Solutions Elite Running Team member) Anzhelika Averkova, 38, can cross a few things off her to-do list. “She now can tell everybody, ‘I’ve been to Canada for a couple of minutes,’ ” Averkova said through an interpreter. Averkova had never been to Detroit before this weekend, but she felt comfortable running the course. She finished in 2:34:50 to win the $5,000 cash prize.

Men’s team placed first in the overall open team division and the Women’s team broke the open team division record. Elite Running Team member Firaya Zhdanova broke the Master (over 40) record. She also won the overall female title. Elite Running Team member Tatyana Pozdnyakova broke the Grandmaster record.
